What counts as mental illness is found in this book (dsm) (a person must have at least 5 symptoms or more this is one of the criteria in the dsm) Important because it acts as a key that differentiates between normal and abnormal behaviours. List of all disorders that are officially accepted. List of criteria the person must pass to be certain, they have that disorder. Early dsm"s talked about cause of mental disorder. There are around 400 types of mental disorders. A mental disorder is characterized by any fundamental, psychological, biological dysfunctions. A mental disorder is a syndrome characterized by clinically significant disturbance in an indi(cid:448)idual"s cognition, emotion regulation or behaviour that reflects a dysfunction in the psychological, biological, or developmental processes underlying mental functioning.
