Persistent depressive disorder (dysthymia: chronic but less severe than mdd, not experienced in episodes, more of a fact or a persons life. Individual may experience psychosis: hypomania (bipolar ii): super functional semi-mania, do not experience the negative effects, always in really good mood, bipolar disorder has spiked drastically in diagnosis in last 20 years. Possible benefit: mania may inspire greatness, drive people to do incredible things, depression may give pause for thought. Premenstrual dysphoric disorder (pmdd: experience 5+ symptoms in week leading up to menstruation, mood swings, depressed mood, feelings of hopeless ness, anxiety, tension, feeling on edge, difficulty to concentrate. Pmdd controversies: what is the difference between pmdd and pms, are we stigmatizing women and women bodies. Treatment: cbt (avoiding, negative self perception, psychodynamics (greater self awareness, drugs, mood stabilizers: side effects, same drug used to treat epilepsy, ect: electro convulsive treatment, shock therapy.
