What is an eating disorder: usually described as severe disturbances in eating that result from the sufferer"s obsessive fear about gaining weight. Some prefer "dieting disorder" because it usually incorporates an obsession to lose weight: a new category - binge eating disorder - challenges this approach. Is it that a person depressed then engage in eating disorder, or the other way around have eating disorder that leads to body feeling worse. If you starve the body no surprise you"ll feel weak, lack of motivation: does starvation simply replicate symptoms of their disorders, ex. depression. Bulimia nervosa: episodes of binge eating, "inappropriate compensatory behaviours, binge: inappropriate amount, lack of control, may be planned or spontaneous, often secret. Feel shame/guilt: compensate for it through throwing up, excessive exercise, overuse of laxatives, comfort soon replaced by shame, anxiety, medical complications: enamel erosion, rupture of esophagus, high comorbidity with depression, anxiety, bpd (borderline personality disorder), ocd.
