HLTHAGE 2A03 Lecture Notes - Lecture 3: Verstehen, Inductive Reasoning, General Idea
Document Summary
The assignment is on steps one and two and not further. Think about the sample population - seniors, caregivers etc. Identify a gap in knowledge that will help justify the need for research. Then identify the research question and purpose statement. A purpose statement captures the essence of a study. A research question will be a more specific statement of what the research is about. Paradigm, theory and research design need to be considered. 3 reasons why research is done: exploratory research - studying a setting that has not been studied before; a new interest emerged due to changes in technology etc. May be in the form of a pilot study - to see whether a method of collecting data will work. Generates research questions: descriptive - provides detailed accounts of a social setting, group, community or event. The question not being asked is why: explanatory - asks why events occur or causality of particular behaviour.
