Many older people remember parts of their younger lives like it was yesterday. Must be 18 or older to go into ltc - she had someone as young as 28. Eligibility criteria - having a valid health card: must require assistance with all aspects of daily living, to go to any ltc home in on, you must meet eligibility criteria regardless of money etc. There is supportive housing as an alternative - retirement homes don"t have their prices set by gov"t. In ltc you only pay for lodging and min of health pays for the health care. Many ask for ltc if they can no longer afford retirement homes but they do not qualify. A pill in retirement homes can cost because they charge an admin cost, but in ltc it is covered. In ltc there is 24 hr nursing, but most care is done by psws.
