Document Summary
Office - kth 233 or 230 mon, wed 12-4 savellm@mcmaster. ca. The link between mental and physical disorder is old - dualism - in many traditions we have both a body and spiritual entity. We imagine mental and physical health as distinct things. Many assume that the cause of mental health is biological. The experience of good or bad mental health is physical - breathing changes, being tense etc. Many definitions of mental disorders there are many physical symptoms. What happens with us emotionally has physical expressions - affect - poise, tone of voice etc. In gauging someone"s mental health the body is unreliable - we can"t gauge if someone is unwell because they have sweaty palms. There is nothing like this for mental health, no mri detection, nothing. When we want to understand mental health we need to understand that it is self-reported - people telling us how they feel.
