Gender is something someone does , sex is something someone has. Hegemonic masculinity -> a form of performing masculinity that becomes very dominant and aspirational; characteristics -> muscular, confident, outspoken, less emotional, more independent. Emphasized femininity -> characteristics: polite, soft spoken, emotional, fragile. Multiple masculinities and femininities - dominant forms become subordinate to other expressions. Real differences in wellbeing and psychopathology, based on physiological differences. From pms & postpartum depression to antisocial personality disorder (aspd) Real differences based on social conditions and socialization. We have to move away from the idea that science is objective ; people produce science making it a human endeavour. If you have a particular idea about gender & sexuality it"s going to come into your science or your health care. When the uterus moved to different parts of the body it would make the woman behave in strange ways. Post ir, belief women inherently more mentally ill than men.
