Advantages of disease model: well supported (med profession, treatment industry, producers, recovery movement, destigmatizes addiction "not a choice, a disease" Still viewed as self inflicted disease (smoke and get lung cancer, sympathize lung cancer but not decision to smoke: many people helped by this approach, useful in part of the time.
