Introduction: addictions are serious matters of personal and social concerns, addiction accounts for a substantial portion of er visits in ontario, we are in an epidemic of addictions, thus, addressing addiction as a serious concern. Four pillars: harm reduction, prevention, treatment, enforcement. Questions to ponder: different responses are beneficial to different people and not all treatments will work for all people. Indicated prevention: targets people who are already addicted, they prevent problems that can happen in the future, ex, trying to fight stigma towards addicts, combining skills that focus on individuals and the environments. Barriers to prevention and harm reduction: people who are legal producers of substances often rejecting preventative remedies, this can make them lose money, moral arguments. If certain drugs became legal more people would start to abuse it or make it: war on drugs; this has become a global endeavour, and a lot of countries have agreed to certain principles.
