Mental illness and aging population - october 1st. Myth: older adults have a higher prevalence of mental illness than other age groups. Myth: mi"s are untreatable in older adults because they"re set in their ways. We study this topic because even though they have lower rates of mi, some older adults still have mi"s and require age appropriate treatments and screening processes. Describe the evolution, use, and criticisms of the dsm-v. Participate in a reflexive activity about mental illness labels. Negative life events and ongoing difficulties impact mh. Survival hypothesis: as we age, we get used to surviving these life events. How you"ve overcome past negative life events; more likely to interpret future difficulties as eventually going to pass" rather than indefinitely awful, never getting over it".
