Idea that we have generations or cohorts that impact development. Individuals who grew up or experience the great depression - they have a common historical context growing up: multiple causation. Idea that there are many factors that influence your adult development: these factors tend to intersect, influence each other - create a complex perspective on aging. Freedom from disease and disability: 3 criteria for success, high cognitive and physical functioning, active engagement with life. If you are a person free from disease, high cognitive, and active engagement that is considered "successful aging" Leave many older adults out: might even leave you out right now because you have a physical disability for example. Success rates based on income: whole idea of equity, you don"t need a high income to age successfully. Consideration of resilience in the face of disability and disease.
