Mod. 3-21 bakery surveillance: immunology in action: read for exam: some people develop respiratory disease and/or allergic disease as a consequence of exposure to substances at work. Introduction: terminology, asthma unrelated to work: people get asthma when they are young. Most asthmatics do just fine and have no difficulties at their jobs. People with bad asthma could avoid jobs that would provoke their asthma. However, some would still choose a job that could provoke their asthma e. g. vet. Employers are not allowed to discriminate against asthmatics. Except for some occupations like fire fighting or the military service. Sainsbury needs to offer a job to a prospective baker, but after learning he has asthma may want to put him into another department. This might not be ideal since the candidate applied to be a baker: work-exacerbated asthma: have childhood asthma that is provoked at work. Have a fragmented work history because of their asthma.
