Need tools to study both psychology and biology. Which parts of the nervous system are responsible for a given function. How do we quantity behaviour and mental processes. Video: monkey gets cucumber, other monkey gets grape, first monkey refuses cucumber. Monkey has sense of fairness, jealousy, or preference for grapes. We can observe subjects to see how an organism responds or acts in a given situation. Monkey was food deprived but still threw away cucumbers. First scale is more accurate, not confined to a number. Memory: digit-span test; tried to characterize the capacity of short-term memory; 7 ish numbers. We can group chunks of patterns to extend capacity of short term memory. Our minds have an ability to mentality rotate objects, visually imagine objects moving. Psychophysics: study of the relationship between physical stimuli and perception. Ability for the human to perceive a stimuli. How far does one bar have to be tilted to say its not vertical.
