Renal vein (the renal artery is just behind the renal vein) Note that all of the structures illustrated here are behind the peritoneal lining (the peritoneum) of the abdominal and pelvic cavities and thus are called retroperitoneal. 150 g: renal arteries (cid:0) aorta (20-25% of blood supply, renal vein (cid:0) inferior vena cava, gonadal arteries (cid:0) aorta, gonadal vein, l gonadal vein comes off of renal vein, r gonadal vein comes off of ivc. If you break it, kidney stops: renal fascia: holds kidneys in place, the liver which connects to the diaphragm you breath it moves up, perirenal fat: cushion the kidney. If you lose the fat, kidney falls down in the abdomen. Diseases: polycystic kidney, enlarged, cysts on the kidney, four ureters on two kidneys, hydronephrosis, extra fluid, large renal pelvis, supernumerary renal arteries, 3 renal arteries, two on right.
