HTHSCI 1H06 Lecture Notes - Lecture 3: Splints, Extensor Retinaculum Of The Hand, Tibialis Posterior Muscle
Document Summary
2 muscle groups acting on the knee: flexors - hamstrings, extensors - quadriceps. Anterior compartment muscles posterior division of lumbar plexus (femoral nerve) innervates extensors of knee (quadriceps) rectus femoris: insertion through patella onto tibial tuberosity, crosses hip joint so it can be a weak flexor of the hip as well. Flexors of knee hamstring group: innervated by flexor division of sciatic nerve (tibial nerve) diamond of popliteal fossa. Balance: sartorius, gracilis, semitendinosis arise and insert on the medial aspect of tibia. Makes goose foot (pes anserine & upside down tripod: sartorius, gracilis. Tendons rub around medial aspect of tibial plateau: lots of wear and tear, pes anserine bursa located here. Inflammation on medial aspect of knee = pes anserine bursitis. Adductor hiatus located in distal end of adductor magnus muscle starts as femoral artery, after it passes through hiatus becomes popliteal artery artery can get entrapped here: cold foot, pins and needles when exercising, popliteal pulse is weak.
