What drove this was pcr (molecular testing: before, we needed to do a cervical swab, which is painful for male clients. Rates have continued to climb since this new test method was introduced. *chlamydia rates are higher in young females than males because females are more likely to have regular visits with their health care provider due to need for oral contraceptive prescriptions, pap smears, etc. Pap smears are only done every 3 years. Females account for over 2/3 of reported chlamydia cases: more females identified as a result of physical exams. Sequelae: females: pid (silent infection), infertility, ectopic pregnancy, chronic pelvic pain,
