Cv system consists of the heart, blood vessels and blood. Blood circulates throughout the body, and comes into contact with many tissues and organs. Bloodstream serves as an excellent vehicle for the spread of pathogenic organisms facilitating the infection of multiple organ systems. Bloodstream infections manifest clinically in many forms: persistent bacteremia is suggestive of intravascular infections such as endocarditis or catheter related infections. These types of infections are life-threatening, and the appropriate diagnosis and management of such infections are critical to patient survival. Anne 33 yr old who presents in er with fever, sob and chest pain. Vitals: bp 100/70, hr 110, temp 39, rr 33, spo2 90% Examined by er nurse who finds injection marks on both arms. Anne tells nurse she has been abusing heroin for the past 3 years , and that she last injected 3 days ago.
