Live in obesogenic env. - food is v readily available, high in dense calories, relatively affordable, value quantity over quality, demand for physical activity is diminished. Ppl often argue that eating healthy is too expensive. Can eat healthy for cheap but some ppl don"t have access to grocery stores & healthy meals. Sdoh impact person"s access to healthy eating and diet choices. Food security: situation in which all community residents can obtain safe, culturally acceptable nutritionally adequate diet thru a sustainable food system that maximizes self reliance & social justice. Families employ extraordinary measures to minimize food insecurity: Food deserts: poor urban areas where residents cannot buy affordable, healthy food. Education: do you know how to properly store food items. Estimated food purchases end up being thrown out. Housing: do they have space and equipment to cook.
