Total environment: physical environment, natural, social, behavioral. Note: many different environments; focus on natural/physical environment. John snow: determined that people who drank out of one well were getting sick and people who drank out of other wells did not. This was the first step to understanding water contamination. Modern hazards: unsustainable development, water pollution, industry, intensive agriculture, urban air pollution, vehicular traffic, climate change, ozone changes, etc. Selected occupational risks: coming in contact with disease, chronic stress, power tools.
