Mixed methods: it includes the mixing of qualitative and quantitative data, methods, methodologies, and/or paradigms in a research study or set of related studies. One could argue that mixed methods research is a special case of multimethod research. Positivism: a paradigm that holds that believes that rationally justifiable assertion can be scientifically verified or is capable of logical or mathematical proof, Pragmatics: the branch of linguistics dealing with language in use and the contexts in which it is used. Integration: the use of multiple methodologies in a research design- eg. mixed-methods design integrates qualitative and quantitative data. Concurrent designs: two or more methods used to confirm, cross-validate, or corroborate findings within a study. Explanatory designs: an attempt to connect ideas to understand cause and effect, meaning researchers want to explain what is going on. Parallel designs: also called a parallel group study, compares two or more treatments.
