Document Summary

Arteries: blood away from the heart, don"t allow for things to easily move in and out. The very first ones that leave the heart. Account for the volume that exits the heart. Drive pressure through the rest of the system. After the elastic arteries, there are many branches. Most of the rest of the arteries in our body. Muscle component goes up, elastic component goes down. Muscle allows arteries to direct blood flow where we need it. Allow for things to easily move in and out. Veins: thinner walls than arteries, contain less elastic tissue and fewer smooth muscle cells, blood towards the heart. In general a blood vessel has 3 layers: Inner most layer adjacent to lumen (the opening on the inside of the tube) Doesn"t matter if you"re in a capillary, vein or artery, all have this. Capillary may have diff shape / size for endothelial cells.
