Motor milestones begin to emerge in later infancy (pre-adaptive) Behaviours that move beyond spontaneous movements or reflexes. Pre-adaptive period (~ 2 weeks 1 year) A landmark is an individual"s motor development, fundamental to skilled performance. Attainment is associated with acquisition of later voluntary movements. Milestones attained in relatively consistent order, but variability in time of attainment: revolves around individual constraints associated with specific child. To walk be able to stand be able to hold trunk upright be able to support head: hierarchy of events, one can"t happen until the previous noe happens. Roll back to front: ~ 6. 4 months, range 4-10 mo; requires neck, shoulder, trunk strength. Sit alone steadily: ~ 6. 6 months, range 5-9 mo; maintain and use stability. Pulls to stand: ~ 8. 1 months, range 5-10 mo. How to achieve desired orientation to the world (posture) flat to sit to stand. How to move about in the environment (locomotion)
