There has been a historical change in ideal women"s bodies. At the extremes of eating and exercise disorders the effects are tragic. These disorders are most commonly framed as psychopathological. Cultural phenomenon because it has become pervasive in the past 50-100 years (because it was not pervasive before) Women tend to be very critical of their whole body and parts of their body while men look at themselves differently. Black american girls starting to develop similar body consciousness as white american girls: popular culture tends to focus on white women"s bodies. Obsession with weight among many women is a logical response (thus diet and exercise also become logical responses) In our society, illogical to be comfortable with your weight and body as a woman. The body is a subject of political power or power relations. The body exists in a system of relations that can be called political anatomy .
