Excretion of protons: regulation of red blood cell synthesis. Secretion of erythropoetin: regulation of vitamin d synthesis. Regulates blood calcium indirectly by making active form of vit d. Sunlight stimulates production of precursor in skin, kidney synthesizes vit d. Renal artery supplies oxygenated blood to kidney cells. Renal artery also delivers blood that is to be cleaned / detoxified. Renal vein carries deoxygenated blood devoid of molecules that have been pulled out. Blood coming out of left ventricle / oxygenated blood, ~ 20% is feeding through kidneys.
