Until very recently it was impossible to look inside the head and cns to see what"s going on. Black box approach was designed to take measures of behaviours and make inferences about thinking and action. Without knowing what"s inside your head you figure out actions that are more difficult to do than others black box approach through experimentation; insight by observation. The difference in the 3 behaviours effect differences in how the black box responds to the 3 situations. We do this by measuring time or measuring error eg. to avoid error, more time is allocated to the task. When time doesn"t matter, frequency of error is the important measure; when error doesn"t matter, time response becomes the important measure.
