Document Summary

Occurs when energy in > energy out. It is stored in the fat cells of adipose tissue. Fat cells enlarge during energy excess: this enlargement can be too much for adipose tissue, causes fat to accumulate in other areas of the body. Body fat is reflected in the number and size of fat cells: fat cells grow most rapidly in our growing years, obese individuals have more fat cells. When we lose weight the fat cell size changes: but the amount of fat cells do not decrease. If weight is regained, fat has many cells to enter into. Lpl activity is higher in obese people: due to increased triglyceride levels. Body regions and gender influence lpl activity: women lpl activity is higher in breast, hip and thigh tissues, men lpl activity is higher in the abdomen. Weight loss also increases lpl activity: the body attempts to restore normality, by trying to regain fat into cells.
