KINESIOL 1Y03 Lecture Notes - Lecture 5: Bronchus, Gastrointestinal Tract, Foregut
Document Summary
The lung bud is an outgrowth of the foregut and is where the respiratory system will develop. The lung bud is formed from single midline evaginations in the gut tube formation. A developing pharynx forms behind the lung bud; becomes the throat. A developing esophagus forms on the other end of the gut tube. The endoderm lining the lung bud gives rise to the epithelium and glands of the trachea, bronchi, and alveoli. The mesoderm surrounding the lung bud gives rise to connective tissue, cartilage, and smooth muscle of these structures. Next the elongation of the lung bud results in its distal end enlarging to for the tracheal bud (becomes the trachea) Soon the tracheal bud divides into the bronchial buds which will branch repeatedly to form the bronchi. Trachea has branched into our left and right primary bronchus. Then from the primary bronchi to the secondary bronchi.
