Blood vessels = circulatory system - circulating the blood around the body. Flow of blood = pressure in the vessels / resistance in the vessels. Vasculature job - changes the resistance - typically changed by changing the diameter of the blood vessel. Thicker blood - less plasma - creates resistance. Muscular arteries - less stretch in the walls - more smooth muscles. Venules - smallest of the veins - collects blood from the capillaries. Inner most wall is lined with endothelial cells. Small water soluble - oxygen, co2 and other gases. Large water soluble - pass through fenestrae - gaps between the cells. Pores or windows where cytoplasm is absent but contains thin porous diaphragm that makes it more permeable and allows large molecules to move through. Located in areas in which we have very large molecules. Endocrine glands - hormone molecules are very large. Spleen"s job is to filter the blood as well as store platelets.
