Ptsd affects physical and mental health over the long run. How rapidly we can learn taste aversion and fear conditioning mediated by stress response which can be positive but effects are very temporary. Stress is a risk factor for many chronic diseases eg. heart disease. Tight rope walker that thrives under stressful situations. Attributes his ability to face this by his interpretation of stress. His perspective is that his body is preparing him to face the challenge. He views the stress response in a positive manner. Researchers from madison surveyed 29000 people about stress over the past year and how they thought stress affected their health. Followed these people 8 years later to see who died. Hazard ratio of 1 = ratio against normal population ( equally likely to happen to anyone in the population. Hazard ratio above 1 = greater risk, ratio less than 1 = reduced risk.
