KINESIOL 2Y03 Lecture Notes - Lecture 3: Peritoneum, Nice Ltd., Microvillus
Document Summary
Tissues - a group of similar cells + surrounding material. Kidney - filters out toxins, lungs - diffusion of gas. They are usually incontact with another body surface. Not in contact with any other tissues above. Connects to the basement membrane which is like an acellular glue. Important because epithelial tissue is avascular and capable of regeneration. Therefore, the porosity helps with oxygen, nutrients + waste removal through the basement membrane to other tissues (connective tissue) Cells are capable of mitosis & replacing damaged cells - important to have this tissue where easy damage can occur. Formed by the secretions of the epithelial tissue and connective tissue. Its like an acellular glue, keeps all the epithelial cells together. Keeps the epithelial tissue in contact with the connective. Simple - one layer, all connected to basement membrane. Stratified - several layers on top of each other. Pseudostratified - simple, but looks stratified, nuclei spread out, all layers connect to basement membrane.
