After they fuse, 2 other tubes begin to develop out of the cloaca. At the end of the ureters, a large structure begins to form called a metanephros and eventually becomes our mature kidney. Mesonephros: caudal extension of the pronephros (functional in the embryo) Primordial germ cells migrate from the yolk sac to gonadal ridge and. At this stage the embryo can still become either sex.
