Anatomical position - body erect, facing forward, feet together and palms up. Cell level - structural and functional unit of living organisms. Tissue level - group of cells and materials surrounding them. Organ level - two or more tissues functioning together. System level - group of organs functioning together. Superior (cephalic) vs interior (caudal) - towards vs away from the head respectively. Medial vs lateral - towards vs away from the midline respectively. Proximal vs distal - closer to the root of a limb vs farther to the root of a limb respectively. Superficial vs deep - more outside the body vs more inside the body respectively. Anterior (ventral) vs posterior (dorsal) - towards the front vs towards the back respectively. Sagittal - vertically through the body, separates left from right. Frontal/coronal - divides the body into anterior and posterior sections.
