Deterioration from a previous level of mental functioning. Psychotic features and episodes (discrepancy from normal level of psychological functioning) If a first degree relative (parent) has schizophrenia, kid has a 10 fold risk of having schizophrenia. Symptoms that might be added to normal behaviours. Inferential thought (hear song on radio and think it"s about them, becoming ecstatic or upset about it), delusions (aliens are here), perception, hallucinations. A lot of people on streets have schizophrenia but cannot organize themselves to live in a residential setting, prefer living on streets. Symptoms that might be less than/removed from normal behaviours. Emotional expression (flat effect very little, do not get too happy/sad about anything) Fluency/productivity of thought (alogia cannot think through a logical process)
