KINESIOL 3K03 Lecture Notes - Lecture 11: Gluteus Medius Muscle, Rectus Femoris Muscle, Valgus Stress Test
Document Summary
Acute care: cold treatment, reduce inflammation, prevent further injury. Surgical interventions: clean out flaps of menisci, completely torn acl will not repair itself, if want intact need to repair. Exercise goals: prevent muscle atrophy, strengthen the muscles, broad based perspective. Long term challenges: break down articular cartilage quicker, more joint shearing. Pain location, and theatre sign : back of patella, front of femur, under surface is painful as it meets the femur, lecture sign as sit in chair for long period, feel stiff when get up from sitting. Aggravated by: any flexion and extension of the knee repeated while supporting body weight, jumping, running, sedentary stair climbing, severe: walking can be uncomfortable. May be areas of high pressure or shearing but more mechanical problem (imbalance: more pressure in certain areas, don"t need to go through inflammation, repair and remodel, little inflammation. Not everyone will have all of these. Hip control: muscular imbalances, weak abductors (gluteus medius) prevent valgus.
