KINESIOL 4T03 Lecture Notes - Lecture 1: Dorothy Dinnerstein, Menstruation, Eating Disorder
Document Summary
One"s understanding of the world is structured by one"s position within intersecting systems of privilege and subordination (messner, 2007) Gender intersects with other systems of privilege and subordinations. We acknowledge that gender does not exist on a binary. The million women"s march has changed to the all women"s march b/c there were not allowed to do the name, and therefore switched it to something more inclusive. Black women felt it was a white women thing, and wanted better inclusion. Now, some women even have more power than men. Female body tends to be more at risk than men. Example: women walking home in dark can feel unsafe, or that there is a threat present, men don"t tend to think of this threat. Black men tend to be more assumed as a criminal, especially if out at night, and he risks being shot.
