There are two distinct influences of memory on human learning. Direct: deliberate attempt to recollect a past experience in order to facilitate current info processing. Recollection as a purposeful and specific way to solve a current problem: ex, meeting someone on the street. Actual memory is incidental to its use (ex, typing a letter) Most motor skills are defined in terms of indirect memory. Ie. don(cid:495)t need to remember how to type to do it, the memory is still there. For human factors purposes it is useful to think of there being at least three different (cid:498)types(cid:499) of memories: short term sensory store, short term memory, long term memory. There are few design-related human factors issues associated with sensory memory however it is important to understand the characteristics of this tore. Stss is a peripheral info source that is known to exist for vision, audition and touch (haptic) Where we store info as soon as it enters the sensory system.
