Now we turn to the other side of human-machine interaction equation: the ways in which actions are directed toward controls within the system. There are 3 major issues to be considered: (1) the features and properties of controls (2) control panels and arrangements (3) specialized controls. The primary function of a control is to transmit control information to some device, mechanism or system. A distinction between information that can be transmitted discretely or continuously. Can be set to only one of a limited # of conditions. Can transmit information from any value along a continuum.
