Large scale; new skylines- last of big characteristics. 1900- when the 2nd industrial revolution takes off. Vast settling of the west; european settlers on the mass scale. Timber, pulp and paper, mining still stay very big. Today we are one of the largest countries on mining; foundations laid down for this at that time. Wilfrid laurier; long term liberal dominance for most of 20th century, and didn"t really end until stephen harper. Expansion into manufacturing at this time; canada still not at the forefront though; does not have competition for us or other countries who were more developed. Controlling the trade; keeping leverage in the form of skill because skill is needed. Electricity; means you can work all the time. Windows at the top to let in light. Breaking things down much more than they did in the first industrial revolution; breaking down of a product into very small tasks.
