Simple legislation; legalizes trade; in particular bargaining over wages, going on strike (these things are not illegal activities) Puts limits on what they can do when they"re on strike; criminalizes them if they do something not allowed can be arrested. When you get together as a group and use your resources/connections and push government to do things that you want. Daniel o"donoghue; liberal party, well connected, successful at pushing for certain reforms. Most important law governing the relationship between one employer and one worker; treats the relationship as one between master and servant. If the servant walked away from the job it was a criminal offence; could go to the police and have you arrested (breaking your employment) First law that sets minimum standards; what employers allowed to do, etc. Issue: child labour children were valuable in a lot of work places (tiny hands, feet, etc) Parents were punished if they were caught sending their child to work.
