LIFESCI 3C03 Lecture Notes - Lecture 1: Selfish Machines, The Selfish Gene, Master Sergeant
Document Summary
Rovers do best under patchy food and high larval densities. If there are differences in genotypes, those differences are related to ecology of an animal. So rover would perform best in an envt with lots of patches and individuals and have capacity to move around: ontogeny: imprinting is what rep ontogeny (imprinting is part of the dev phase when you"re young). Brood size wouldn"t be the answer bc brood size has to do with survival (it"s an adaptation). In long term, cheating is not a good strategy bc: other individuals in the group could start to notice that you"re not participating in vigilant behavior. Over a period of time, possibly could have more cheaters in the group. So if you increase number of cheaters in group, not good in long term. But in short term, that one foraging experience is a good strategy.
