We cannot 100% control the environment as possible. If you grow mice in the same cage, you can"t control how much they"ll eat. We can define or estimate a value for the influence of genetic versus environment. Heritability: the proportion of variation in phenotype that is due to variation in genotype rather than the environment. Expressivity: looking at one individual for a particular genotype and looking at the severity of the symptoms. Both of these can be impacted by the environment but expressivity is more influenced by the environment. Sex - male pattern baldness - related to testosterone. They are homozygous for the ch alele, which means they"re supposed to be. Temperature is interacting with genotype to impact the colour of fur. Place a cold patch on the himalayan rabbit. Wherever the patch was, we create black colouration. Protein is inactive at the higher temperature near the cat"s core body temperature leaving a light brown background.
