LIFESCI 2G03 Lecture Notes - Lecture 12: Zygosity, Odds Ratio, Meiosis
Document Summary
A lot of genetic diversity without even breaking the chromosomes. 2 genes (2 chromosomes) = 2^2 = 4 possible combinations of alleles. 2^n = n is the independent sorting alelle pairs. Just by independent assortment, there are more than 3 million combos of alleles of gametes. If they"re on the same chromosome they"re "coupled" / "linked" They"re "linked" to the chromosome, but also linked to each other. Yellow, white and yellow+ white+ are on same chromosome. If these y&w alleles always stay together, then you"d always seen the two phenotypes in the offspring. They genes didn"t sort independently of one another, and werent stuck together permanently either. The number of times the linkage was broken/total offspring. Non parental - the new combinations of the recombinant. If 50% they"re on different chromosomes, or really far apart. They"re on the same chromosome, can"t really recombine.
