Airflow is modified in vocal tract by placement of tongue or positioning of lips, and occur at points of articulation. Description: voicing, place of articulation, manner of articulation. Tongue: primary articulating organ: tip: narrow area at the front, blade: just behind the tip, body: main mass of the tongue, back: hindmost part of tongue. Back and body together = dorsum: root: contained in upper part of pharynx. Places of articulation: labial: sound made with closure/near-closure of lips. Bilabial: made with both lips (ex. peer, bin, month) Labiodentals: made with lower lip and upper teeth (ex. fire, vow: dental: sound made with tongue places against or near teeth (ex.
