Voiceless property of p is persevering : persecutory assimilation or progressive assimilation. Assimilation results from coarticulation. it can be due to 2 reasons is anticipatory or progressive assimilation. Vowel reduction : common process in rapid natural speech. Deletion commonly happens to reduced vowels ex garage [g within consonants ex wednesday [w nzdej]. Can"t have two stops in a syllable onset. Sometimes when we are speaking extra segments are added due to coarticulation.
