To understand the nature of speech acts and how they are used in public discourse/the media. Opinion essay with analysis: you can and are expected to use 1st-person. Length: no more than 4 pages excluding references, size 12 font, 1. 5 spacing. Speech act chosen must be one of three types: apology, promise, threat. Collect texts related to the chosen event: news stories, blog posts, online videos, etc. You must use a variety of sources: minimum 4 different texts (a video is considered a text, from a minimum of 3 different sources (news outlets, channels, blogs). Note: make sure that the text you are using is not one that has been republished. You want the original text: your texts must be from at least two different types of media (print, video, internet, radio, etc. ) 4 internet articles from the new york times: not enough variety of sources or media types.
