MEDRADSC 2H03 Lecture Notes - Lecture 18: Lambdoid Suture, Middle Meningeal Artery, Coronal Suture
Document Summary
Lambdoidal: across posterior surface of skull, separating occipital bone from parietal bones. Sagittal: begins at superior midline of lambdoidal suture, extends between parietal bones and ends when it hits coronal suture. Squamosal: between the parietal and the temporal bone. Occipitomastoid: suture between occiput and mastoid part of temporal bone. Parietomastoid: suture between parietal and mastoid part of temporal bone. Sphenosquamosal: between sphenoid and squamous part of temporal bone. Sphenofrontal: between greater wing of sphenoid and frontal. Sphenoparietal: between greater wing of sphenoid and the parietal. Lambda: junction of lambdoidal and sagittal sutures *(posterior fontanel closes between 1-3 months) Pterion: lateral aspect of skull junction of: Greater wing of sphenoid: overlies middle meningeal artery o fontanelle . Bregma: at junction of two parietal bones with frontal bone, anterior fontanelle : ossifies 6 months-2 yrs, frontal/metopic suture is only in infants. Completely ossifies at age of 6, runs between the 2 halves of the frontal bone, runs into the bregma (anterior fontanel)
