MEDRADSC 3I03 Lecture Notes - Lecture 16: Foramen Magnum, Incisive Foramen, Medulla Oblongata
Document Summary
Lambdoidal: across posterior surface of skull separating occipital bone and parietal bone. Sagittal: begins at superior midline of lambdoidal suture and extends between parietal bones to coronal suture. Coronal: found between frontal and parietal bones (sagittal suture ends when it intersects with coronal) Parietomastoid : between the temporal and parietal bones. Sphenosquamosal sphenoid and squamous part of temporal. Sphenofrontal greater wing of sphenoid and frontal. Sphenoparietal greater wing of sphenoid and parietal. Fontanels in new borns: incomplete calcification areas. Junction of lambdoidal and sagittal sutures *(posterior frontanel) Lateral aspect of skull junction of: parietal bone, squamosal suture, greater wing of sphenoid, overlies middle meningeal artery, sphenoidal fontanelle. One of the weakest areas of the skull. At junction of two parietal bones *(anterior fontanel) Not completely ossified till age of 2. Frontal suture (aka metopic suture) only exists in child, disappears by age of 6. Junction of occipital bone with parietal bone and mastoid portion of temporal bone.
