Once embryo develops, placenta takes form; supplies nutrition of the developing fetus. Mucus plug forms in the cervix; formed by the uterus; function is to prevent any microbes or foreign materials from entering the uterine cavity. Embryo: is the developing pregnancy from conception to end of 8th week. Fetus is developing pregnancy from beginning of the 9th week till birth. Presence of hcg (human chorionic gonadotropin) in mom"s plasma or urine hcg is produced by chorionic villi. Lmp = 1st day you miss your period.
