Q"s are gonna be similar to q"s on test. The body"s specific defence mechanism which responds to particular substances, cells, toxins or proteins that are perceived as foreign to the body. Foreign or non-self substance that has entered the body and can stimulate the immune system to respond. Non-infectious agents: from the environment- pollen , foods, and bee venoms. Others: are on drugs, vaccines, transfusions and transplanted tissues. So antigens are proteins (for the most part) on the surface of the individual"s cells that are recognized as foreign. Macrophages (wbc"s known as monocytes once they have migrated to tissues) live in tissues in the liver, lungs and lymph nodes. They are phagocytic cells that engulf the antigen and present it to other. Antibodies are a type of protein called immunoglobulin eg. ige. Mhc tells the cells not to attack the body. T-cell attaches onto the antigen and kills it on its own.
