Use magnetic principles & coils release radio frequency energy (from coils) that goes into the patient"s body. Motion is the biggest detrimental factor (blinking, swallowing can ruin an image) Coils cover body parts: birdcage (head), coils for the liver and breasts. Have ear protection because the machine is so loud it will ruin your ears. Cannot have any electronics because they are attracted to the metal and will emit a little bit of. Some kids need to be sedated to relax, use visors to watch videos. The scan is not used in emergencies because it takes 20+ minutes to take an image radiofrequency. Open mri"s are not in canada so insurance increases because patients have to travel to use. Size matters: not everyone will fit in the machine. Magnets are always on (attracts hospital beds, oxygen tanks, etc) Janitors need to have training about the machines so cleaning supplies don"t go into the magnet.
